Space Tourism Could Begin by 2013

Traveling into space by the average person may happen sooner than thought. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported on Aug. 1, 2012 that there are more than 10,000 commercial opportunities for people to travel into space using a reusable suborbital rocket. Five designs plan to begin initial operations in 2013 or 2014.

The Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics hearing on Aug. 1, 2012 addressed emerging commercial suborbital reusable launch vehicles and the rising marketplace by taking testimony from companies and researchers that plan to build and compete in suborbital flight, including space tourism.

The suborbital reusable launch vehicles will travel over 62 miles into the atmosphere where they will cross into space for short periods of time. The International Space Station (ISS) orbits around 240 miles above the Earth, in low Earth orbit. The area that is just over 62 miles above the Earth is the beginning of space and will be used for physical research, human research, atmospheric research, microgravity research and for space tourism.

The Sierra Nevada Corporation’s Dream Chaser Space System was awarded $212.5 million by NASA’s Commercial Crew Integrated Capability (CCiCap) Program on Aug. 3, 2012. The funding will help in the creation of a commercial human transportation systemic to low Earth orbit.

Ready to buy a ticket into space? Lynx suborbital flight tickets can be purchased for $95,000. Just put down a $20,000 deposit and the orientation, medical screening and G-Force training begins. XCOR Aerospace is building the Lynx.

Virgin Galactic space tickets can be reserved with a $20,000 deposit. Flights start at $200,000 and are expected to drop over time.

The FAA released a Fact Sheet- Ten year Forecast of Suborbital Reusable Vehicles.

This can attract people for the first time that customers
have the opportunities to experience a new trip. However, companies providing
those trips should also consider about how the clients can entertain not just
fly around and watch outside the windows when they pay a lot of money for
    tickets.

Еhis type of tourism is very interesting and I think will interest many people, but of course it is very expensive and not many can afford it. I know that there have been some tourists that was flying into  space on the shuttles. And it was quite successful flights.
