Holiday Inn Hotels to Open Three Hotels in Kolkata

The InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) plans to introduce the Holiday Inn brand in West Bengal in a major way with three hotels lined up in the next three years, stated an article by Shubro Niyogo in The Times of India. Jain Group, Kolkata-based real estate company that is venturing into hospitality, will invest Rs 300 crore in the three star properties in Kolkata, Durgapur and Siliguri.

The Kolkata hotel, located next to City Centre 2 in New Town, will have 150 rooms, including four deluxe suites, and target the corporate traveler. The 1 lakh sq ft property will also offer three super specialty restaurants and two floors of banqueting facilities. The investment in the project is pegged at Rs 115 crore.

The site of the 100-room proposed hotel in Durgapur is located next to NSHM Knowledge Campus in Muchipara on NH2. The Jain Group plans to invest Rs 75 crore in the 80,000 sq ft property. The one lakh sq ft Siliguri hotel will have 110 rooms along with three banquet halls, a 24-hour coffee shop and three specialty fine-dining restaurants. The proposed site is close to Darjeeling More on Hillcart Road.

Rishi Jain, Executive Director, Jain Group said that all three hotels will be managed by the IHG and sport the Holiday Inn brand. “We have tied up with IHG for the five-star category hotels in all three locations. The Holiday Inns will be the first five star hotels in Durgapur and Siliguri,” Jain said. Both cities have Sarovar in business hotel category.

Jain said work was underway at all three properties. “The Kolkata hotel located next to City Centre 2 in Rajarhat will become operational in October-November next year while the other two properties will be in place in two-three years,” he said.

The three star properties mark the Jain Group’s entry into the hospitality vertical. The hotels in Siliguri and Durgapur will be accompanied by nearly one million sq ft each of residential development. And though the hotel in Rajarhat will be a standalone one, it already has nearly two million sq ft of development underway in Rajarhat.
