Cruise ship passengers are being given a warm welcome in Pembrokeshire as the county aims to boost tourism.

Nearly 500 German visitors will spend the day in Milford Haven when the MS Astor calls at the port, the second of three cruise ships visiting this week.

Tourist chiefs are laying on free shuttle buses and attractions including birds of prey and classic cars.

Sue Blanchard Williams from the Milford Haven Port Authority said this week’s visitors could spend around £120,000.

‘Real difference’

The MS Astor, docking on Wednesday, is the second German vessel to visit Pembrokeshire in less than a week after the MS Delphin brought nearly 500 passengers to Pembroke Dock on Saturday.

On Friday another 400 visitors will arrive in Milford Haven from Liverpool on the MV Discovery, on a tour of southern Ireland, Wales and the Scilly Isles.

Tourism experts estimate that cruise passengers visiting Pembrokeshire spend an average of £80 each on shore.

“The amount of money visiting cruise ships bring makes a real difference to the local economy with thousands spent by the passengers and crew during their stay,” said Ms Blanchard Williams.
