Sunoco, VeriFone Forge Deal to Install Integrated Dispenser Screens Marketer Selects Payments Firm As Exclusive Media Provider For Fueling Islands

Through a new agreement, VeriFone Systems Inc. will provide Sunoco Inc. with dispenser card readers that have integrated video screens and dynamic streaming content, the companies have announced.

These payment terminals will enhance the fueling experience for Sunoco’s customers and provide a cost-efficient EMV (Europay MasterCard & Visa compliance standard) strategy for Sunoco’s growing network of branded retailers.

Sunoco sought a PCI-compliant and EMV-ready payment platform to engage consumers during fueling. VeriFone’s Secure PumpPAY offers a mix of advertiser-funded offers, coupons and other relevant content through VeriFone’s VNET – At the Pump media service. The Secure PumpPAY card readers offer card processing and technology that will integrate with Sunoco’s CurrentC mobile payments platform.

Inside Sunoco’s convenience stores, VeriFone provides LiftRetail, also known as VNET – InStore. Through integration with Sunoco’s point of sale, LiftRetail’s consumer-facing screens display real-time targeted offers and upsell opportunities to the shopper. Consumers touch the screen to accept the offers.

“The combination of VeriFone’s indoor/outdoor video experience, our consumer loyalty programs and our forthcoming mobile payments app will provide Sunoco’s consumers with a dynamic two-way communication platform,” said Drew Kabakoff, Sunoco’s director of marketing.

“We applaud Sunoco for being the first in the industry to standardize on EMV- and PCI-compliant solutions across all of its branded locations,” said Jay Parsons, senior vice president of digital media and taxi solutions for VeriFone. “Additionally, their selection of a highly integrated marketing platform will aid each of their branded locations by helping to increase sales and enhance the customer experience.”

VeriFone has partnered with Gilbarco Veeder-Root, Greensboro, N.C., a leader in forecourt retail petroleum technology, to collaborate on delivering this type of comprehensive pump, media and payment offering. The result is what the companies say is the largest at-pump interactive digital media network worldwide, encompassing more than 50,000 digital screens in taxis, gas pumps and convenience stores.

San Jose, Calif.-based VeriFone is a leader in secure electronic payment solutions. VeriFone provides expertise, solutions and services that add value to the point of sale with merchant-operated, consumer-facing and self-service payment systems for the financial, retail, hospitality, petroleum, government and healthcare vertical markets.

Based in Philadelphia, Sunoco’s retail business markets its brand of gasoline through more than 5,000 retail outlets from Maine to Florida and west to Michigan and Louisiana, including more than 600 APlus convenience stores. Houston-based Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) owns 100% of Sunoco, with a network of more than 5,000 Sunoco-branded retail sites in 24 states, soon to be merged into Susser Petroleum, Houston, and renamed Sunoco LP.
