Police in China are investigating a university following claims that a brothel disguised as a ‘foot massage department’ was operating on its campus.

The bordello was allegedly based inside the luxury Guangxin International Hotel at Wuhan’s Wuchang University of Technology – reportedly part of a company chaired by the university’s chancellor Professor Zhao Zuobin.

To buy services from prostitutes, customers would tell the hotel receptionist that they were looking for “Sister Zhou for some health care”, and could receive a discount with a valid student card, the Telegraph reported according to the Beijing Times.

A student whistleblower, identified as Mr Chen, told the Beijing Times that he had visited the hotel to use its foot massage service and was offered “special services”.

“It is outrageous that this is going on at our school,” he told the newspaper.

“Our parents have spent so much money to send us here to study and they do not expect such things from the school environment,” he added.

An undercover reporter who posed as a student from Wuchang University claimed that the hotel is run by Guangxi Science and Education Group – the company which runs the institution and is chaired by Professor Zhao.

During the investigation, a hotel employee allegedly told the undercover reporter that she could offer him “any kind of girl you like, so that you won’t be disappointed when she arrives,” and advised him of discounts unlocked with a university ID or by referral from a previous customer.

But when the reporter attempted to haggle with the employee, she became annoyed and said that students are “rich”.

“You students are rich. You just don’t make money but your parents give you a lot of money,” she said.

The reporter also claimed that several hotel employees said sexual services were provided on the side, but stressed this was managed directly with the hotel, the South China Morning Postreported citing the Beijing Times.

In a statement published on its official Weibo account, the university denied that Professor Zhao or any other staff members were involved in the running of the hotel or alleged prostitution, adding that the matter had been referred to police for investigation.

The hotel said it only offered massage services to customers and the alleged prostitution may have been arranged personally by its staff.

Meanwhile, police said it had suspended the hotel’s massage business as part of its probe.
