United plans airport lounge overhaul

United will upgrade its lounges' F&B offeringsUnited Airlines is planning to overhaul its global network of airport lounges.

In the coming year, the airline will renovate its United Club lounges at Chicago O’Hare,Washington Reagan, Hong Kong and TokyoNarita airports. It will also build new lounges in Atlanta and San Francisco.

United said the new and renovated lounges would reflect the style of its recently launched lounge at London Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 2, which has won awards for its design.

But the main focus of the upgrades will come in terms of service. United said it will re-train its United Club staff to ensure “standards of the hotel and hospitality industry” and it is also planning a major overhaul its F&B offerings.

“We’re making major changes in our United Clubs to give our customers the elevated, hospitality-centric service and experience they deserve and expect. This year will be transformational,” said Jimmy Samartzis, United’s vice president of customer experience.
