Sixty Percent of New Jobs in Tourism Industry

The number of tourists visiting Iceland in 2015 is expected to increase by 25 percent, according to daily Fréttablaðið today.

A total of 1.2 million visitors are expected to arrive via Keflavík International Airport, 150,000 via the ferry which travels between the European mainland and Seyðisfjörður, East Iceland, and Reykjavík airport, which connects Iceland with Greenland and the Faroe Islands, as well as 200,000 via cruise ships.

Close to 2,000 new hotel rooms will open in the capital over the next three years.

Since 2010, 60 percent of new jobs created in Iceland, or 4,600 positions, are related to the tourism industry.

Last year, almost half of all new cars registered in Iceland were bought by car rental companies.
