Nestlé Jamaica to divest dairy business to Musson Dairies

Nestlé Jamaica has announced that it will divest its locally manufactured dairy business to food processor and manufacturer Musson International Dairies.

As part of the deal, Muss1on – one of the largest food processors in the Caribbean – will acquire Nestlé’s Supligen and Betty brands, as well as its manufacturing and distribution facilities at Nestlé’s factory in Bybrook, near Kingston. The company has said that the 130 jobs at the site would be safeguarded while the business changes hands.

Nestlé Jamaica has also decided to phase out the Milo repackaging process at Bybrook by the end of 2015, moving to a full importation model. A social plan including counselling, training courses and financial planning will be offered to the ten employees who work in this area, Nestlé said in a statement.

The move will allow Nestlé to focus its marketing, sales and distribution efforts on international brands – including Maggi, Nescafé and Coffee-Mate – with a new head office and warehouse scheduled for the end of 2016.
