Year 11 catering pupils at Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic College tested their culinary skills by hosting a Christmas party for the elderly.

The students have chosen an extra GCSE subject in hospitality and so they had to plan, set-up and deliver an event.

“The pupils chose to run the OAPs’ Christmas Party which consisted of designing the menu, producing the food, the layout of the room, the theme and serving the food and drinks,” said Head of Food and Catering at Blessed Trinity Karin Buchanan.

“Another aspect of their project was to raise money for the event which they did by running a tuck shop after school on a number of days.”

The guests came from a variety of parishes, there was also some of the families of the students and a number of school governors.

The team consisted of seven members: Amber Rogers, Emily Spiers, Matthew Bowes, Roberto Arcangelo, Sophie Hobman, Sophie Holt and Olivia Holt who were helped by a selection of Year Nine and 10 catering pupils and also a numberof Year 11 prefects.

“All of our pupils worked exceptionally hard to produce a fabulous event for the festive season and we had some lovely feedback from our guests,” added Miss Buchanan.

The idea was an excellent one and it
reflected the humanity and care of the students to the elderly people in their
community regardless of their beliefs. The event showed real team work and also
was a good practise of planning, organizing and executing the event from A to Z
in addition to their encouragement for charity by the funds raising process.

  2. Mariam says:

Bringing recreations like this brings joy and happiness with harmony among people. They can work in a friendly environment and team work was a good lesson to learn. This has helped charity grow and this is a positive sign. Raising money from such events could be a good step because ig will encourage more people to organize such events and bring forth charity work. A healthy lifestyle.
