Chef Justin Basye & Christopher Balat Open Balcor Hospitality’s Museum Park Cafe in Houston’s Affluent Museum District

Museum Park Cafe (MPC), a new restaurant by Balcor Hospitality and Chef Justin Basye, is now open for dinner. Lunch services will begin on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, with brunch service to begin Saturday, October 11, 2014. Balcor Hospitality, which also owns and operates Cloud 10 Creamery and Bosta Coffee and Wine Bar, is owned and operated by Christopher Balat. Both Chef Basye and Mr. Balat are native Houstonians and alumni of St. Thomas High School.

Prior to joining the Balcor family, Chef Basye was a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation’s Rising Chef Award while he was executive chef at Stella Stolla and was a member of the Pappa’s Group research and development team. Chef Basye’s current team include Exec Sous Chef Jason White and Pastry Chef Chris Leung. Chef White previously worked at the award-winning Oxheart in Houston, Texas. Chef Leung is well known as the award winning force behind Cloud 10 Creamery. MPC will be under the care of Beverage Director and General Manager Todd Leveritt.

The dinner menu at MPC consists of exceptionally executed dishes with Chef Basye’s classical touch. First courses include cheddar & scallion biscuits, sweet corn bisque, roasted beet salad, steak tartare. The pasta menu also has items sure to please every palate and features a variety of pastas made in-house. The pasta selection includes gnocchi, bucatini, spaghetti and garganelli with traditional sauces such as bolognese and pomodoro. Entrees at MPC include fresh seafood such as swordfish and scallops, roasted chicken and Black Hills Farms pork milanese, and of course such accompaniments as confit potatoes, herb pistou and tuscan kale. The wine program at MPC boasts a full list of wines with a fair mix of old and new world varieties. The known labels on the list are joined by some new and exciting names personally selected by Mr. Leveritt.

MPC holds a center-stage kitchen with 84 seats and additional outdoor seating. Art throughout the restaurant is a collection of local artists assisted by Gallery Jatad. In the main dining room, art piece “Fractured Landscape” by Floyd Newsum can be appreciated. Newsum’s work can also be found in the Smithsonian. MPC is located on the corner of Binz and Chenevert, on the first floor of the award winning Parc Binz complex, a Balcor Commercial development. Reservations are encouraged, however walk-ins are welcome.
