Food, beverages industry income up 5.3% in June

TOTAL income in the food and beverage industry increased 5.3% in June 2015 compared with June 2014, Statistics SA said on Monday.

Positive annualfood-1024x768 growth rates were recorded for “other” income (8.6%) and food sales (6.4%).

Total income increased by 6.2% in the second quarter of 2015 compared with the second quarter of 2014.

The main contributors to this increase were: takeaway and fast-food outlets (8% and contributing three percentage points); and restaurants and coffee shops (5.8% and contributing 2.7 percentage points).
