One of the newest additions to Tourism Tropical North Queensland’s board is planning on bringing smarter marketing of the industry to the Far North.
James Cook University Cairns campus head Professor Robyn McGuiggan officially joined the region’s peak tourism body as a board member, bringing with her several years’ expertise in tourism research.
“I think TTNQ have a really good strategic plan, but I think there are some nuances that we can tweak,’’ she said.
“The one thing I think I can bring is more in-depth knowledge of digital marketing, because social media’s all the go these days.”
Prof McGuiggan will be joined by three other new board members: Gary Kerr, the director of economic development and community services at Cook Shire Council; former Barron River MP and tourism operator Michael Trout; and Mission Beach resort manager David Breadmore.
Following TTNQ’s annual general meeting this week, the organisation’s board chairman Max Shepherd thanked the outgoing directors who stepped down after making a valuable contribution.
Advance Cairns also held its AGM this week, with BDO Cairns tax and advisory partner Michael Delaney and FR Ireland Pty Ltd managing director Richard Ireland elected to executive director positions.
Cairns Wholesale Paints and Cleaning Supplies director Stewart Smith, NewsCorp Australia North Queensland executive general manager Nick Trompf, and Good Price Pharmacy Warehouse Cairns proprietor Trent Twomey were elected to director positions.
